About Cat Health UK
Cat Health UK was born from a simple frustration: searching for cat health advice at 2am and finding either American websites talking about brands and vets that don't exist here, or forum threads from 2007 that end with “never mind, he's fine now.”
Neither of those helps when your cat has just been sick on the carpet and you're trying to work out whether to panic.
Who's Behind This?
I'm a UK-based cat owner who got tired of wading through unreliable information every time one of my cats did something worrying. I'm not a vet — and I'll never pretend to be one. What I do is research: every guide on this site is built from published veterinary literature, official guidance from UK animal welfare organisations, and verified clinical sources.
If something on this site is wrong or out of date, I want to know about it. Seriously — email me and I'll fix it.
How We Research Our Guides
Every article on Cat Health UK follows the same process:
- Start with the evidence. We search the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, ISFM guidelines, and PubMed for peer-reviewed research on the topic.
- Cross-reference UK guidance. Cats Protection, PDSA, RSPCA, and the British Veterinary Association all publish public-facing guidance. We check our content against what these organisations say.
- Write for cat owners, not academics. The research matters, but so does being readable at midnight when you're worried. We translate clinical language into plain English without dumbing down the facts.
- Review and update. Feline medicine moves forward. We revisit every guide at least once a year to check for new research, changed guidelines, or reader feedback.
What Cat Health UK Is Not
- Not a replacement for your vet. If your cat is in pain, distressed, or showing any of the red-flag symptoms we highlight in our guides, stop reading and call your practice. This site helps you make informed decisions — it does not diagnose or prescribe.
- Not sponsored by pet food companies. We use Amazon affiliate links on some product recommendations, but no brand pays for placement or influences what we recommend.
- Not American. We write for UK cat owners, referencing UK veterinary practices, UK charities, UK-available products, and UK animal welfare law. If something only applies in America, you won't find it here.
